I am old enough to remember when the working class in America was welded to the Democrats like a sheet of steel—but that was a long time ago. 

As liberal outlets like The New York Times, Washington Post, and MSNBC have grimly and repeatedly chronicled over the past decade, Democrats have “lost” their connection with wage-earning Americans, a phenomenon they often attribute to poor messaging, bigotry, or the Svengali-like powers Donald Trump seems to hold over “misguided” voters who fail to recognize the wonders of Big Government—and are insufficiently thankful when forced to pay the taxes to support it. However, perhaps because the only working-class Americans they ever meet are locked in a room with a political consultant attempting to understand their obvious “ignorance” of their best interests, perhaps I can offer some insights to Democrat leaders that might help explain why they are so loathed.

First and foremost, those who actually work for a living—as opposed to those who are loping their way through a day in academia or at a desk in a non-profit agency—are plainly frustrated with those who are adverse to getting their butts off the couch and going to (gulp!) work. 

Most of us who have ever drawn a paycheck have had to deal with short-term unemployment and are entirely sympathetic to individuals who are too ill or disabled to care for themselves and need help, but people who are simply lolling around for years on end and posting TikTok videos while availing themselves of all variety of public aid tend to send those who come home exhausted each day into a spiraling (and completely understandable) rage. This anger is multiplied by a factor of about 10 when the loafers are illegal immigrants who are getting free medical care, free food, free housing, free educations, and free cash. It’s not xenophobia or bigotry; it is the logical anger of those who a striving to pay their bills when they encounter those who think others should pay their bills for them. Why this dynamic is a mystery to Democrats is, quite frankly, a mystery to me.

Democrats also seem confused about why so-called POC’s (People of Color) are routinely frustrated with all the illegal immigrants that have been allowed into America.

Hot flash, Democrats: Legal immigrants, who had to go through all the effort and expense to enter America and, when they followed the rules and worked their way through the system, eventually became American citizens, are uniquely unsympathetic to border jumpers who have been placed at the front of the line and given preferential treatment. Moreover, legal immigrants are just as concerned about crime as anyone else, and they readily recognize the need to arrest and deport the incredible number of gang members and psychopaths the Democrats’ open border policies invited into their neighborhoods. To anyone else this would be mere common sense, so it does not say much for Democrats that they cannot seem to understand why their immigration agenda is falling flat with everyone except White, affluent liberals, who sneer at President Trump while drinking a glass of Chardonnay in the backyard of the house they own—in a gated community.

In addition, the sexual politics embraced by Democrats might be popular with the unhinged and unfulfilled, but they are a real problem for the mainstream working class voters who are royally ticked off about their sons and daughters being made to feel guilty—about being sons and daughters—by the pronoun police who have been patrolling our nation’s public schools. Although the Looney-Tune Left has been appalled that Donald Trump and his allies have recognized that boys are boys and girls are girls, one can be certain that the majority of parents (many of whom are the POC that Democrats have been counting on to be the vanguard of their revolution) are secretly pleased that someone is finally pushing back against this extremist nonsense—and will be doubly pleased if there also can be fewer idiotic nose rings and Daddy-issue tattoos teaching in their children’s classrooms.

Finally, if Democrats ever want to get back into the favor of the majority of Americans (their Party’s favorability rating with voters is currently bumping along at the lowest level in 35 years), it is worth remembering that the only people in America who hate law enforcement are those who habitually run afoul of the law. Should anyone want to get a look at the sort of jerks, lowlifes, and deranged individuals that fill the days of our nation’s police, a few hours with the body-cam videos available on YouTube might be an instructive enterprise, and this would be especially helpful for those Democrats who habitually call law enforcement officers “Gestapo” or worse. It would also be useful to keep in mind that these police officers—as well as their friends, families, and communities—are among those working class voters whom you are hoping to lure back.

Working class voters have migrated to Republican candidates for reasons that are easily understood by anyone with a grip on reality. However, Democrats seem to have decided, particularly since their national debacle on Election Day last year, that racing to the ragged fringe of Woke lunacy is somehow preferable compared to a move to the moderate political center. It is, of course, far too soon to determine whether embracing the peculiar rebellion against hard work, citizenship, and morality that their most prominent leaders dream of inciting will ever win elections, but the next few years will be an interesting experiment, nonetheless.
