When I walked out the front door as a child and teen, my father always offered the same piece of parental advice: Don’t be stupid. I now offer the same advice to protestors throughout America who are harassing and obstructing Federal immigration agents enforcing the laws of our nation.
Those who are overexcitable and easily offended may not be aware that law enforcement sometimes involves the use of force. Moreover, people who have broken the law have a habit of loudly proclaiming their innocence, attempting to flee, and screaming like demented monkeys while being handcuffed. This is, unfortunately, a pretty typical scenario that makes for good social media theater, but it has absolutely nothing to do with determining actual guilt or innocence, although it generates anger among viewers who have already convinced themselves—thanks to the narrow information bubble in which they live—that today’s arresting officers are the second coming of the Gestapo.
It does not, of course, help that Democrat politicians are doing everything possible to encourage citizens to become vigilantes and threaten Federal officers who are attempting to arrest those who are our country illegally and have, more often than not, committed other crimes, regardless. People who confront or impede law enforcement immediately put themselves and others at risk, and officers are empowered to use whatever force they deem necessary to protect themselves and the public from threat. This is not a game, nor is it a great time to provoke trouble for the sake of your next TikTok video.
It should also be remembered that members of the public have no idea why a particular suspect is being sought, and if there is a credible risk of violent resistance by the fugitive, police will take every possible precaution when making that arrest. You might already know, for example, that police always draw their weapons when alerted that a suspect could be armed. You might have also noted that police are trained to use the least possible force when engaging in crowd control in a hostile situation, so be thankful officers are using pepper spray instead of bullets on the screaming idiots pounding on their vehicles or preventing them from taking a suspect into custody.
However, also be aware that if you pose a deadly threat to law enforcement, you might be shot because officers and their colleagues have every right and responsibility to defend themselves and others from harm.
Unfortunately, I suspect all the good advice in the world will not dissuade the true believers who are being egged on by those who see political and financial advantage blowing their way if they can persuade Americans to vote against Republicans. Convincing people who are clueless about our actual immigration laws (many seem oddly convinced that illegal entry into our country is akin to a parking ticket instead of a felony) why this extensive round-up is today necessary has been difficult due to all the media-driven propaganda.
If you want to protest anyone, my suggestion would be to instead head down to Delaware and scream at Joe “Open Borders” Biden or his Vice-Presidential sidekick, Kamala “Border Czar” Harris, on her book tour. The root cause of the illegal immigrant problem we are dealing with today was created by Democrats who willfully and idiotically did everything in their power to flood our nation with foreigners as a political ploy.
Remember it is also probably a bad idea to be a screeching stooge for conniving politicians who at this moment need you in the streets to win the midterm elections—but who will also abandon you in a New York Minute if the poll numbers start moving the other way.
As my father always said, don’t . . . be . . . stupid.
